1Who we are
DearDream is made by BetterFly AI LTD, a company registered in Israel, 42 Moriya St., Ramat Gan 5238171, Israel (“we”, “us”). We decide how your personal data is used in DearDream, which makes us its controller.
For any question about your privacy, or to use any of the rights below, write to us at hello@deardream.app. A person reads every message.
2What we keep
Your account. Your email address and your password. The password is handled by our sign-in provider and stored only in scrambled (hashed) form: nobody at DearDream can read it. If you continue with Apple or Google instead, there is no password: we receive from them an account identifier, your email address (with Apple, it can be a private relay address) and, if you choose to share it, your first name.
Your first name. You give it when you begin, so DearDream can speak to you by name. You can change it in your profile.
Your dreams. The words you write or dictate, and what DearDream writes about them: a title, the reading, symbols, feelings, whether a dream was lucid or recurring, the image chosen for it, and a numeric summary of the dream (an “embedding”) that lets DearDream notice when dreams are related.
Your conversations with DearDream. What you write or dictate to her in the chat, and her replies. DearDream answers in writing only.
DearDream’s memory of you. The symbols, recurring patterns and changes in feeling that she draws from your dreams over time, so that later readings can remember earlier ones.
What you choose to tell us about yourself. Optional: your gender, age range, relationship status and whether you have children. Each can be left blank, and DearDream works without them.
Your settings and your consent. Your language, your appearance (dawn, night or automatic), and the version and date of these terms and of the AI consent you accepted.
Messages you send us. When you write to us by email, or report a reading or one of DearDream’s replies: your email address, your message, its topic and your language, linked to your account if you were signed in, and for a report, which dream or message it is about.
Technical data. Like any online service, our servers see your IP address and basic details of each request in order to answer it and block abuse, and our hosting providers keep short-lived logs. If something breaks on our servers, an error report may be sent to an error-monitoring provider (Sentry), if enabled (see section 6).
Your subscription. If you subscribe to DearDream Premium: the plan, the store (App Store or Google Play), the dates of purchase, renewal and expiry, whether a trial is running, the subscription’s status and the store’s transaction identifier. We keep this only to give you access to Premium. Payment is handled by Apple or Google: no card or bank details ever reach us.
Your email choices and your mornings. Whether you asked for letters from DearDream and when you said yes, your time zone (so an email reaches you at a sensible hour) and, if you set a morning reminder, its time.
3Your voice and the microphone
DearDream asks for the microphone only the first time you tap a microphone button, never when you install or open the app, and listens only while you are recording.
Dictation is transient. When you dictate a dream or a message, the recording is sent to our server and on to Google’s Gemini service to be turned into text. DearDream keeps only the text. We never store your recording.
You can refuse or withdraw microphone access at any time in your phone’s settings. DearDream keeps working when you write.
4What we never do
- We never sell your data, and never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- There are no ads in DearDream, no advertising identifiers and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- DearDream contains no analytics or advertising software.
- We do not use your dreams to train AI models.
- We never ask for your location, your contacts, your photos or your health data.
5Why we use it, and on what basis
- To give you DearDream (your account, your journal, the readings, the chat, your memory and insights). This is necessary to provide the service you asked for.
- To have your dreams read by artificial intelligence. DearDream cannot read a dream without sending it to the AI providers named in section 6. Dreams can touch on your health, your intimate life or your beliefs, so we ask for your explicit consent to this processing. You can withdraw it at any time in your profile, under “Your dreams and your privacy”: DearDream then no longer reads your new dreams or answers you, and the dreams you already have stay yours to browse.
- To fit the readings to your life, using the optional details you chose to give. Based on your consent; clear them at any time in your profile.
- To answer you when you write to us.
- To keep DearDream safe and working: preventing abuse, securing accounts and fixing errors. Based on our legitimate interest in running a secure service.
- To meet legal obligations, when the law requires us to keep or disclose information.
6Who helps us run DearDream
A few service providers process data on our behalf, only to provide their service to us and under data processing terms that oblige them to protect it.
- Google (Gemini API) reads your dreams, writes DearDream’s replies, transcribes dictation and builds the summaries that link related dreams. It receives the text of your dreams and conversations, your first name and optional details, and your dictated audio. Under its terms for the paid Gemini API, Google does not use this content to improve its products and keeps it only for a limited time to detect abuse.
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in and file storage, in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany).
- Railway hosts the DearDream server, in the European Union (Amsterdam, the Netherlands).
- Vercel hosts the DearDream website and its pages, through a worldwide network of servers.
- An error-monitoring provider (Sentry), if enabled, receives error reports from our servers when something breaks. They are configured to leave out personal identifiers such as your IP address and your account.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces the DearDream app displays, and therefore sees your IP address, as for any web request. The deardream.app website serves its own typefaces from its own servers and does not use Google Fonts.
- RevenueCat (United States) manages subscriptions for us. It receives your account identifier and the store’s record of your purchases (plan, dates, status), and tells us whether Premium is active. It never receives card details.
- Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play) process subscription payments as independent controllers, under their own privacy policies. They share with us, through RevenueCat, only the record of the purchase itself.
- Resend (United States) sends DearDream’s emails for us. It receives your email address, your first name and the content of each email, which in a monthly letter can include how many dreams you kept that month and the symbol that returned most.
We may also disclose data when the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our users, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy continues to protect it. We will update this list before adding any new provider that receives your personal data.
7International transfers
Your journal is stored in the European Union. BetterFly AI is based in Israel, which the European Commission recognises as providing an adequate level of data protection. Some providers above, including Google, Vercel, RevenueCat, Resend and Sentry, may process data in the United States or other countries.
When your data leaves the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Israel, we rely on the safeguards the law provides, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where a provider is certified under it.
8How long we keep it
- Your account, dreams, conversations, memory and details: for as long as you keep your account.
- When you delete a dream, it is hidden at once: it leaves your journal, together with its conversation and its place in DearDream’s memory. Its text is erased for good when you delete your account.
- When you delete your account, we erase everything that is yours at once: your dreams (including those you deleted before), conversations, DearDream’s memory of you, your details, any files stored for you and your sign-in. The last copies leave our backups within 30 days.
- Dictated recordings: never stored by us (see section 3).
- Messages you send us: as long as needed to help you and handle any follow-up. Messages linked to your account are erased with it.
- Subscription records: for as long as you keep your account, and erased with it. Apple and Google keep their own records of your purchases under their policies.
- Server logs and error reports: kept for a short period by our hosting and error-monitoring providers, under their standard settings, unless we need them longer to investigate abuse.
- Your email choices: until you change them or delete your account. The date you said yes to letters is kept as the record of your consent, and the list of emails we sent you (which kind, and when) so that none is ever sent twice; both are erased with your account.
9Your choices and your rights
In the app, at any time, you can delete any dream from its page, change or clear your first name and optional details, withdraw your consent to the AI processing (in your profile, under “Your dreams and your privacy”), and turn off the microphone in your phone’s settings.
To delete your account, open your profile, then “Your dreams and your privacy”, then “Delete my account”. This erases everything listed in section 8 and cannot be undone. Without the app, write to hello@deardream.app from the email address of your account (see Support).
Your rights. Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to erase it, or to receive it in a portable format: write to us at hello@deardream.app and we send you a copy. If the GDPR applies to you (in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom), you can also restrict or object to some uses of your data and withdraw a consent at any time, without affecting what was done before. Under Israel’s Protection of Privacy Law, you can review the information we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it.
Write to us at hello@deardream.app. We answer within 30 days and may first confirm that the request comes from you. You may also complain to your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL; in Israel, the Privacy Protection Authority). We would be grateful to hear from you first.
10Children
DearDream is for adults. It is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, tell us at hello@deardream.app and we will delete it.
11Security
Your data travels encrypted (HTTPS) and is encrypted at rest. Each account can read only its own dreams: this is enforced by the database itself, and every change goes through our server, which checks who is asking. Within BetterFly AI, access is limited to the people who need it to run DearDream.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
12On your device
DearDream stores a few things on your device: your sign-in session, and your language and display choices, so it opens the way you left it. Before your account exists, your first name and first dream wait on your device only. On the website these are small first-party cookies and your browser’s local storage. They are needed for DearDream to work and are never used for tracking.
13Emails and morning reminders
Emails about your account. DearDream sends a few emails that belong to the service itself: a welcome when you join, news about your subscription (a trial starting or ending, Premium beginning, a cancellation, a payment problem) and the confirmation that your account was deleted. These are always sent.
Letters from DearDream. Now and then, a short note about your dreams and your journal, never more than one a week. Letters are optional and off unless you turn them on, when DearDream offers them or in your profile. Every letter has a link to unsubscribe in one tap, and you can turn them off in your profile at any time.
Morning reminders stay on your phone. If you ask for a morning reminder, the app itself schedules it as a notification on your phone, and your phone shows it. No push service and no server sends it, and the words of each reminder never leave your phone. We only keep the time you chose, with your account. You can turn reminders off in your profile, or in your phone’s settings, at any time.
14Readings are not advice
DearDream’s readings are reflections to think with, never a diagnosis. DearDream is not a medical device and gives no medical, psychological or therapeutic advice. The Terms of Service say more, including where to find help.
15Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects what we collect, why, or who receives it, we will tell you in the app before it applies and, where the law requires, ask for your consent again.
